Lawn Goodbye: Hello Roses & Edibles

“Kim brought my dream garden to life, only better. Her knowledge of plants and her artistry and intuition worked magic on a previously overgrown and water guzzling landscape. Every vista is beautiful.”

Plenty of Beauty & Plenty of Bounty!

This is re-purposing and beautification of an established property in multiple areas on site in Palo Alto, CA.
The  project began with a request to remove grass in front and back yard and allow Karin to grow more edibles protected from local gophers preying on her yummy edibles and wreaking havoc with successful crop yield.

Space #1 Front of Home remove grass and reduce overgrown plantings.

Space #2 Courtyard remove excessive ground cover and ivy and replant with more perennial plantings.

Dedicated and devoted wife and mother to her husband and senior in high school preparing to graduate and leave for college in the fall. Goal now is trying to fit in her own family needs for preparing and creating a backyard space to use for a large celebration planned for their daughter’s high school graduation party with family and friends happening in June 2015. We discuss the party scope, but I am already thinking how this will be a very inviting space for many years to come.

Lawn Goodbye: Birds & Bees Friendly

Re-imagining the Lawn:

Water-friendly designing, with curb appeal!

This recently completed project in Redwood City, CA began in January 2015, working with the city rebate program.  We submitted plant lists to be planted, we got approval rather speedily, and installation happened early in March 2015.

Now almost 3 months of growth, May 2015, the Spring plantings are looking right at home.

We say hello to these beautiful new drought tolerant perennial water-conserving beauties in Redwood City, CA.

This welcoming entrance with eye appeal the moment one drives into driveway or is walking pass from the sidewalk – colorful arrays with birds, bees, hummingbirds, butterfly’s welcome anytime of day! From Betty’s desirable front and center inside vista or when she is spending time maintaining her established cutting beds – lots of eye candy here and…

Learned about the sweet gifts from her grateful flying regulars!

The sunflower 4′ was not planted by her or by me! That is a nice thank you present!

Client Testimonial: “Kim masterfully designed a drought tolerant yard for me to replace my lawn. She was easy to work with and took into account that I wanted plants that provided nectar and pollen for my bees as well. She listened to what I did and did not like and rest is history.

Lawn Goodbye: Urban-Suburban-Chic Backyard Destination

Side Garden with Arbor

Side Garden with Arbor

This recently completed project began with Tracy, my client who had a beautiful interior home and now wished to continue the vision to add living space in our mild climate and her frequent lifestyle entertaining guests.  She contacted me in October, requesting our moving quickly to increase outdoor living room spaces for upcoming holiday season. Both mindful of the drought reality here – she contacted me to help create an inviting space to enjoy every day, she just didn’t realize that was going to happen so fast!

What began with:

“Small lot: Underutilized back area since moved into home many years ago. Concrete doesn’t match personality. Add beauty to match indoors. Add a new arbor for privacy, year round interest & vines for color complimenting existing fence planting from neighbors covering along fence and embellish a few plants for front of house. Kim accomplished all that while complying with my “I don’t like/want” preferences, with the general theme  (Urban chic/modern/hip) of my existing landscape and with my budget.”

It was requested for a new backyard inviting space, to compliment with the interior. We mutually chose while shopping & selecting on plants, materials & new pots. Made selections plus gaining an education on what, where and why a plant was suitable. Incorporating amazing objects re-purposed in new interesting ways, adding a few more complimentary objects, magic of wood stain, perennial plantings for entire perimeter. New colorful succulent pots. Replanting stunning heirloom roses in the front of the house all on a small lot that has a lot of destinations for many seasons to come!
Makes me smile her teenage son thinks this new space is a perfect new hangout for him to have his friends over too!
We say Hello to these beautiful new drought tolerant perennial spaces in San Carlos, CA

“Working with Kim was an amazing process. I had some ideas, but she “read” me and my family in such a creative way. She lead me to plants, design elements, and space configurations I could never imagine. We ended up with an urban-suburban-chic backyard and patio. Friends call it the Zen garden.”
